Another academic year has begin here at Coe College and the theme this year is Big Money Moves. I'm excited to lead this new group of DJs this semester and take over the campus. Some new elements you can expect from your neighborhood radio station: more club collaboration (see Monday Music Hour with Mu Phi Epsilon, Coe's professional music fraternity), a new logo (coming soon! did someone say stickers and swag!?!?!?), and more social media presence!
Who is to say what the semester has in store for KCOE? Not I. All I know is it's gonna be a wild ride, so buckle up! Sincerely, Ellora Bultema KCOE President. A man of few words, rather a man of actions, Sam Riley is the current President of KCOE. He hosts the show Left of the Dial which explores indie and alternative music from the 60s through the 90s. He’s a junior, studying political science and public relations, and he’s from St. Angsar, IA. Of the few words he did share with us: On the origins and inspiration of Left of the Dial… “I wish I could have been around during the golden era of college radio, where the majority of alternative music got played in the 80s and 90s, so this is my way of making it happen today.” On Disney Princess… He describes himself as a “Lydia Lunch”-type. Listen to Left of the Dial every Monday from 6 - 7 pm CST at www.kcoeradio.weebly.com. Be sure to check out some of our other shows on the website as well!
If you’re interested in getting involved please contact [email protected]. McLeod “Cygnus” Shea has been listening to music that makes him want to move for years, so he jumped at the opportunity to share it with others. On “Laugh and Dance” Cygnus focuses sharing his two passions, comedy and dance music. As a major in mathematics, he hopes that putting on a show helps himself and anyone else who needs it to just ignore troubles for a week, and listen to something that makes you move, something that makes you laugh, or even a live performance of one of the two. He says he’ll wreck you at smash brothers, and will stop telling unfunny jokes the day he dies. Catch Cygnus every Thursday from 8 - 9 pm CST at www.kcoeradio.weebly.com. Be sure to check out some of our other shows on the website as well!
If you’re interested in getting involved please contact [email protected]. Aaron McDermott is originally from Dubuque, Iowa. He’s a Chemistry major, Sociology minor and is in his second year here at Coe. Alongside his co-host Ethan Aslop, he bring new tunes following a theme of the week on the show Wednesday Wednesday on— you guessed it— Wednesday. As a Kohawk at heart, Aaron wants you to know: He has taken the official “Oh My Disney” quiz and can say with complete confidence he is Mulan. And if he were to name the next special edition Oreo it would be reOre. Finally, a quote… “I like fries. Fries make me smize me oh me me oh my-ze." Catch Aaron and Ethan every Wednesday from 8 - 9 pm CST at www.kcoeradio.weebly.com. Be sure to check out some of our other shows on the website as well!
If you’re interested in getting involved please contact [email protected]. Say hello to Jaylah Roberts-Coleman! Inspired by the many compliments she received about her “voice for radio”, Jaylah took to the soundwaves to share her love of hip-hop and R&B with her show What’s Poppin’ with Mae. She’s a junior Communication major at Coe, with a minor in Creative Writing, and hails from Chicago, Illinois. More things about Jaylah: “I would love to be sleep. Sleeping while it’s raining is the best sleep, I promise!”, when asked what you would most likely find her doing on a rain Thursday at 1:52 pm. Her current (as of February 26th, 2019) jams are Dip by Tyga & Nicki Minaj and 100 Grand by Lil Durk feat. Ty Dolla $ign & A Boogie wit da Hoodie. And although her norm is to cut her sammies diagonally, “sometimes you get lazy and just go down the middle”. To learn more about Jaylah and ger show, add her on Snapchat (@jaylah_naeka) to find out what the theme of each show and for song requests! What’s Poppin’ with Mae is every Monday from 9 - 10 pm CST at www.kcoeradio.weebly.com. Be sure to check out some of our other shows on the website as well!
If you’re interested in getting involved please contact [email protected]. Meet Sharon Levy! Co-host of the show KCoe Creeps, with Michael Crecco, these two seniors explore all things horror. Every week they break down elements of horror and discuss horror media, like movies, TV shows, books, and video games! They also look into origins of stories and try to understand what we fear. As a Creative Writing and Film Studies major, with a minor in Anthropology, Sharon wants you to know… “I’m a big media lover, so nerding out about horror for a full hour is the best.” She doesn’t think a taco is a sandwich, and more specifically that a taco is its own food and it wants to stop being compared to others. And if she were to name the next special edition Oreo it would be “What, you thought we ran out of ideas?”. Join Sharon and Michael on Tuesdays from 7 - 8 pm CST at www.kcoeradio.weebly.com. Be sure to check out some of our other shows on the website as well!
If you’re interested in getting involved please contact [email protected].
